  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 large egg whites (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for meringue)
  • 1/8 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine lukewarm milk and water. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, salt, and flour; mix until combined into a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 20 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. To make the filling, heat heavy cream and chocolate chips in a saucepan until melted. Stir in cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, butter, and salt.
  5. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle. Spread the chocolate filling evenly across the dough and sprinkle graham cracker crumbs on top.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from one long side into a log shape. Cut into equal pieces (about 8 rolls) and place cut side up in a greased baking dish.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush rolls with melted butter and bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For the topping, whip egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form; gradually add sugar while whipping to stiff peaks. Stir in vanilla extract gently.
  9. Once rolls have cooled slightly, top each with meringue and enjoy!
